In connection with renovation works, it can be problematic to break up a concrete floor without being aware of where the pipes are positioned under the floor. There may be pipes for under floor heating which one does not want to damage in the process. By ensuring a large flow through the pipes of either hot or cold water it is possible to localize the piping with a thermographic camera. The above photos show an example of a job where midtconsult localized the under floor heating pipes in a toilet.

Comment: The photo is taken in a top floor apartment where the roof is insulated with 250mm insulation. The surface temperature in the attic is 14°C which is alarmingly low. Everything suggests that there is a structural fault on the façade or roof. This fault results in cold coming down from the attic giving damp problems in the long run and an inexpedient loss of heat from the apartment. In the case in question one had forgotten to mount the specified insulation material in an area on the façade.

Comment: The photo is taken in an apartment and shows a column between two window sections. Two very cold corners have been ascertained in the climate shield by both windows. The cold corner is caused either by holes or poor insulation around the windows. Note the surface temperature of the column is low which can cause cold draughts. Everything indicates that the column is badly insulated.

Comments: The photo is taken in an apartment and shows a balcony door. The insulation around the door frame has not been carried out correctly and in the actual case has given rise to further investigations.

Comment: The photo is taken in an apartment and shows a concrete beam above a balcony door. The surface temperature in the corner is 13°C due to a cold thermal bridge or a hole in the climate shield. In the long run it will give damp problems. It is important to carry out further investigations of the building in order to find the cause of the problem. If there is a structural fault the problem must be solved.
